Hearts

A couple of weeks ago, a lovely blogger Amy at Love Made my Home had a give away for some pretty hearts.  They arrived this morning - I love opening little parcels.  I always find it exciting.

I think they fit in perfectly, and give another heart company (these words are so true!)

Here are Amy's hearts in their new home.

In my kitchen.

On my desk

And with my recipe books.

Thank you Amy.

It's finished!

I have really enjoyed making this blanket.  In fact, I can't believe I have completed it so quickly.  It's not like me at all.  I didn't get sidetracked along the way - may be it was the variety of stitches?  Or the horrid weather kept me focused?  Who knows, but it worked and I've made a blanket in record time!

All ready to be used this evening.  :)

Garden visitors

Matt has declared that lunchtime today was the best of the week.  Not due to my culinary skills!  As I was emptying the dishwasher, I looked out to see this!

Now - I know it's rural - but we don't usually see sheep in the garden!

They had escaped from the field opposite - so we gently "shooed"  them back back in that direction.  However, being sheep, they took a sharp right and headed off down the lane!

It was nice to see neighbours who we don't usually see through the winter, as several of us moved them back to their home. A real team effort.

Back safe and sound - we hope.  No sign of the farmer though!

Have a great weekend.

Today

Today - we woke up to this....

I have to say I wasn't keen to start the day - and managed to convince Mark to make me a cup of tea, so I could watch the breakfast news in bed.  I know it's not much - but it's such a luxury for me.  I am always the one who gets up first and "gets the show on the road".  Today, I didn't!

Not feeling a great urgency to go to the office (we work from home), I did a little indoor gardening.

Matt is still working hard - and has managed to spread his revision through quite substantial parts of downstairs!  Thank goodness it all goes back to school on Monday.

Matt then asked me to listen to his Physics revision - his bedroom window became the white board!

The view from my office this afternoon - the weather has cheered up considerably!  And I'm watching the sun set as I write this.

Early evening, I will be sewing in more ends.  I have finished the blanket, and now just have the ends to do (I'm really wishing I'd done this as I'd gone along, but I never learn.  I'm always in too much of a rush to do the next colour).  The I've got to decide on the edging - maybe as the pattern says, but maybe something different.  I'll have a little play at the weekend before committing myself.

Then we are off for a pizza with friends - and hopefully a glass of wine too.  :)

Sunshine

What a difference the sun makes.

Spring peeked out, and showed it's not far away, despite all the rain and relentless grey skies and winds.  I can't tell you how good it felt to spend some time in the garden today.  I couldn't really do much, it is far too wet, but I felt energised, even after a short time pottering around outside.  It was even warm enough (tucked out of the wind and next to the house) to have a cup of tea and slice of cake outside.

I know that it won't last, but it was just what I needed.

I seem to have done so much more today than when it rains from dawn til dusk (it might also have been that Matt's rugby match was cancelled, and Mark took him to training, leaving me to have a cup of tea with my mum).

I started the day by making a cake - banana and walnut loaf.  Great with a cup of tea.

Then out to the garden, I was surprised to see how much is in flower - amazing considering all the wind and rain.

It won't be long before these daffodils will be in flower.

Even a tulip in flower in a sheltered spot.

The part of the garden with the snowdrops has been submerged just recently - so it's good to see them still trying to flower.

Then time to sit back and watch the birds - they are so noisy at the moment.  It's such a pleasure to just sit and listen to them.

The robin wouldn't sit still for his photo!

Sorry there are so many photos - but I couldn't choose which ones to use.  It made such a change to have some photos taken in good light.

Hope you've had a good weekend.

Friday 14 February 2014

Hi

Hi there

I'm sure everyone is home this evening given the wind and rain outside.  It's just awful here.  I'm glad we got home when we did as the lanes and roads to reach my house are all closed now.

The water usually drains away quite quickly once the rain stops, but it's pretty horrid at the moment, but nothing like as bad as it is for so many others.

I'm sorry I've not been around much this last week, nor replied to comments.  I promise I have read everything as it's happened, but I have had a busy week in the office, and teenage studying and revision seems to impact on my time too!  (But so far so good - Matt is quite happy with how the Mocks have gone so far.  He says thanks for your kind wishes.)

I've not had much time for crafting this week, but have made a couple of cards for a good friends first anniversary, and a birthday.

I'm hoping that the weather forecast is right, and Sunday is a nice day.  I am desperate to spend some time in the garden and take some photos.  Mind you, Matt has a rugby match in the middle of the day, so I hope the sun stays out for most of the day.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

Happy Valentines Day

(We went in to Brighton and had lunch in the Lanes - despite the weather!  On the plus side, it certainly wasn't as busy as usual!!)

This weekend

I had hoped to get out in the garden and take some photos this weekend, just to see what is happening as we approach Spring.  But it wash't to be.  It seems to rain whenever I have time to spare.

So instead, I've started reading a new book, had supper and wine with friends, watched Matt play hockey and rugby (in the rain) and managed to squeeze in a bit of crochet (mainly whilst its been raining outside and the wind howling).

This was the situation last night.

As Smudge checks the new blanket for snugliness!  (I don't think that's a word but I'm sure you know what I mean!)

Off to help with Maths revision now - Matt's mocks start tomorrow.
